How CallRex Works
Overview - CallRex records/monitors
telephone calls by sniffing packets traversing across the
data network. Packet sniffing is achieved by enabling port
mirroring on the data switch. Port mirroring is supported by
most data switches and when enabled will send a copy of
every packet destined for one port to another port. A more
detailed explanation is presented below.
Shore Gear T1 is plugged into port 24, the ShoreTel
server is plugged into port 23 and the ShoreGear 8 is
plugged into port 22(the Observe ports) on the data switch.
Port mirroring is enabled on these ports.
The CallRex Server is plugged into port 1 on the switch.
Every packet going to ports 22-24 is mirrored to port 1,
thus enabling CallRex to sniff every packet going to and
from the ShoreGear equipment.
